Meet Peter A. Wheeler MS, PA-C
Peter, a native of New Hampshire received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Plymouth State University. At Plymouth he earned the Eastern Athletic Trainers Scholarship. He furthered his studies in Sports Medicine at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. While at IU, he was the Graduate
Assistant football trainer for the Liberty Bowl champion Hoosier football team. Peter went on to earn his degree as a Physician Assistant from Saint Francis University in Pennsylvania. He has over 29 years of experience in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He also served eight years as a Captain in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Peter lives in St. Augustine with his wife Sandra. They enjoy the beach, paddleboarding and kayaking. Peter and the rest of Dr. Rizk’s team is committed to providing quality orthopedic care and guiding you to a rapid and safe recovery.
He pursued his medical degree at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, FL and completed his orthopaedic training at Largo Medical Center-NSU COM in Largo, FL. He then went on to complete his fellowship training at the prestigious Drexel University College of Medicine/Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh, PA. During his fellowship, he received extensive training in robotic hip and knee replacement, along with various surgical approaches to the hip, including the direct anterior approach – training under the pioneers of robotic surgery, and direct anterior approach hip surgery, in the state of Pennsylvania. He participated in the most up-to-date surgical techniques in hip and knee replacement, including multimodal pain management to decrease patient pain and discomfort after surgery, leading to faster recovery.
